Gili Air

The island has mobile telephone coverage by the major Indonesian networks Telkomsel, XL, Indosat, Axis, poor coverage by 3, and there are a couple of public telephone offices.

The internet has improved a little on Gili Air in recent years, but is still usually painfully slow and very expensive at around Rp 24,000-30,000/hr). Mobile internet especially with introduction of unlimited plans since 2009 in Indonesia is a much better option, if you have your own laptop or a smartphone. GPRS/EDGE access seems to be quite slow on Gili Air, however, depending upon the operator used it may help to go to the eastern or western beach to try for a better connection.
